Lagos rise for Tinubu/Shettima, Sanwo-Olu

All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters yesterday held a Solidarity Walk in support of presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima.

The rally tagged: Five ‘million-man walk’ was also in support of the re-election of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. It was organised by the Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (Aka MC Oluomo).

The APC supporters across the metropolis defied the early downpour and converged on the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere as early as 7am.

The crowd walked from the stadium through Ikorodu Road and converged on Bolade, Oshodi.

Various groups came with their banners to show their support for Asiwaju Tinubu, Shettima and Sanwo-Olu.

Nollywood Stars, musicians and others came in different colours of insignia bearing Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu.

The traffic were diverted from some major roads, including Funsho Williams Avenue, Yaba, Ikorodu Road, Agege Motor Road and neighbouring communities.

Three popular fuji musicians – Wasiu Alabi Ajibola (Pasuma wonder); Sulaimon Adio (Atawewe) and Sulaimon Alao (Malaika) entertained the crowd.

Security personnel were on hand to ensure orderly.

Akinsanya described the gathering as a mini-show of strength by Tinubu’s supporters.

“We just want Lagosians and Nigerians to know that our father, Asiwaju Tinubu has millions of supporters. This is just a tip of an iceberg. We are not fully out yet. By the time the election dates draw nearer, Nigerians will see our true colour.

“We’ll deliver massive votes for Asiwaju Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu in Lagos,” he said.

Akinsanya said Tinubu had the character, capacity and competence to provide leadership that everyone would be proud of in the country.

Tinubu, he added, has the experience and ability to replicate his feats developments in Lagos State at the federal level, if elected.

APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi urged Lagosians to use their votes to create millions of jobs.

Ojelabi said with Tinubu as president, the country will witness unprecedented development and employment opportunities.

He said: “You have witnessed monumental infrastructural development in Lagos State. By next year, it will be 30 years when a Yoruba person, who is a progressive to the core, would be flying the flag of our party to contest as presidential candidate under our party. I urge all of you to let us use our votes to banish poverty; let us use our votes to remove insecurity in our lives; let us use our votes to grow our economy; let us use our votes to generate employment for the youths of this nation.

“You have seen the opportunity given to MC Oluomo (Akinsanya) and what Oluomo has done to create employment for the youths. Come 2023, if you vote for Tinubu, employment opportunities will come in millions because if an individual uses the resources of one state to transform what we have seen in Lagos State today, then, you can imagine giving such a man the national resources. Asiwaju Tinubu will provide jobs for our youths.

“Today, on the payroll of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), we have a total number of 18,000 people that are employed. Today, we have thousands of people working with Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC). Go and check the number of people working at Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other agencies created by Tinubu. Creating job opportunities for the youth is not by rocket science, it is by creative; it is by thinking deep to see what to create to open our economy.

“I thank you all for coming out in large number. Come February 2023, let’s come out in groups to vote. Remember that Awolowo (the late Obafemi) couldn’t get this opportunity till he died. Thirty years after, Abiola (the late MKO) couldn’t get this opportunity. Today, we have the opportunity to vote for the right person. It is our votes, if we want employment, development, it is our votes. If you love Asiwaju, go and canvass massive votes for him.”

APC Lagos State House of Assembly candidate in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I, Otunba Stephen Ogundipe, said this is just the beginning.

Ogundipe said Nigeria needed Tinubu’s experience and expertise to turn things around and ensure development.

“This is just a rehearsal for Nigerians to know what we’re capable of delivering. We don’t just talk, we walk the talk. This is our Lagos. You can do whatever you want in another state but Eko ni won pe bi,” he said.

According to him, a vote for Tinubu is a done deal.

“We’ll show Nigerians that our love and support for Asiwaju Tinubu is massive. He’s a great man and an achiever. He had a great vision for Lagos State and delivered. Now, it’s time for Nigeria to tap from his wealth of wisdom by voting him as the next president,” Ogundipe said.

On his part, Olakunle Banjo of the APC Progressives Union said Tinubu is well prepared to change the narrative of the challenges facing the nation if elected in 2023.

According to him, some areas that should enjoy priority of the incoming administration include insecurity, power generation and employment creation.
