In a clear demonstration of the renewed commitment to the enduring partnership between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, CMG and the Director General of NAPTIP, Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, jointly launched the recently renovated NAPTIP holding facility at its Headquarters, on Friday, September 15th, 2023.
Prior to this renovation, the NAPTIP holding facility grappled with some challenges including insufficient infrastructure, and limited amenities. The timely intervention by the UK Home Office aligns with NAPTIP’s reinvigorated dedication to reducing human trafficking, sexual and gender-based violence.
Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, in her address, underscored the substantial impact of the long-standing collaboration between the United Kingdom Home Office and NAPTIP, a partnership underscored by tangible outcomes. She emphasized the importance of treating every individual, even those held on suspicion of human trafficking and violence against persons, with dignity. She expressed her gratitude to the High Commissioner for his presence at the commissioning and looked forward to further impactful collaborations in the future.
British High Commissioner Mr. Richard Montgomery, CMG in his remarks, lauded the Director General and her team for their commendable work. He acknowledged the sensitive nature of combating human trafficking and deemed the event a testament to the effective partnership between both countries. Mr. Montgomery commended NAPTIP’s impressive achievements over the past two decades and expressed his anticipation of another 20 years of fruitful collaboration between the UK home Office, NCA and NAPTIP.
