Man Commits Suicide After Selling Same Plot of Land to 3 Buyers in Benue State

A young man identified simply as Tartor Ayihe, from Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, reportedly died by suicide after allegedly selling one plot of land to three different people.

The incident, which occurred on the evening of Wednesday, January 15, 2025, has left the local community in shock.

According to sources, Ayihe excused himself from a meeting convened by the village chief to address the land dispute involving the three buyers. Witnesses said he left the gathering under the pretense of retrieving something from his house.

A local resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, disclosed that instead of heading straight home, Ayihe visited three different provision shops in search of Sniper, a potent insecticide.

“After he managed to buy it, he went to his house, switched off his phone, and consumed the entire bottle,” the source revealed.

Concerned by Ayihe’s prolonged absence, the village chief sent individuals to check on him. They found him unconscious and immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue State Command, CSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.

“We got the report this morning. Operatives have been sent there to find out what happened. They have not given me feedback,” she stated.
