A presidential hopeful under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Amaechi has resigned as the Minister of Transportation.
Amaechi took the decision hours after President Muhammed Buhari on Wednesday directed his ministers with political ambition to tender their resignation letters.
President Buhari gave this directive during the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
The President directed them to submit their resignation letters on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.
Amaechi hopes to take over from President Buhari at the end of his tenure in May 2023.
The resignation of the former Governor of Rivers State was confirmed in a tweet by APC Twitter UK handle.
It wrote, “Nigeria’s Minister of #Transportation, HM Chibuike R. Amaechi [@ChibuikeAmaechi] has resigned from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to focus on his Presidential Campaign.
“Thank you for your service to Nigeria.”
Amaechi has joined the likes of Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajuiba, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio and Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, who have tendered their resignation letter to focus on the 2023 race.
