In furtherance of efforts to actualize FG’s agenda for the Niger Delta Region (NDR), Minister, Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development (FMNDD), Engr. Abubakar Momoh embarked on concluding the leg of inspection tours to ascertain the progress of projects of NDR situated in Imo and Abia states.
During a courtesy visit paid on arrival, 26th March, 2024, to Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma in Government House, Owerri, Engr. Momoh called for the cooperation of relevant stakeholders of the sector.
He said, “This is to engender enabling environment for infrastructural development, economic empowerment of youths and women as well as access to wealth, guaranteeing lasting peace and prosperity of the region.
In this vein, the Minister appealed to the governor to release some requisite state commisioners to attend the National Council on Niger Delta Development meeting to work with the Ministry’s team to enable achieve set targets, against the backdrop of soliciting increased collaborative engagements with stakeholders to curb insecurity and facilitate continued execution of major projects across the region.
He ceased the opportunity of the visit to intimate Governor Uzodimma and stakeholders of the forthcoming 6th National Council of Niger Delta Development slated for 16th to 18th April, 2024 Asaba, Delta state.
In response, Governor Uzodimma commended the Minister for efforts made since his assumption of office to unite all stakeholders in the NDR to ensure peace.
He, however, implored the Minister to carry out an audit of uncompleted projects by the Ministry and NDDC with a view to bringing them to completion where required.
He also recommended the transfer of the expressed Amnesty Officer in the Ministry to enable fully to achieve the purpose of the programme. This was contained in a statement signed by Eunice Akro, Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations.
Dr. Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary, FMNDD, Hon. Eugene Dibiagwu, Chairman, House of Representatives (Reps.) Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation, Hon. Obi Aguocha, Chairman, House of Reps. Committee on Niger Delta were key amongst those on the inspection team.
