NDLEA Destroys Four Cannabis Farms, Arrests 1,887 Suspects in Kano

Kano State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it has destroyed four cannabis farms and arrested 1,887 suspects, between July 2021 to June 2022, out of which, 185 persons were arraigned in court, with 76 convictions gained.

The agency also recorded the prosecution of one Salisu Ya’u who was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Commandant of the agency, Abubakar Ahmad,
said this while marking the 2022 United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking.

Abuse of harmful drug substances and the sale of illicit drugs in Kano have become worrisome among the populace.

Those who engage in the sale of illicit drugs often claim they are ignorant of the dangers, while others admit that they know, but have to make ends meet.

As Nigeria joins the world to mark the United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, with the theme, ‘Addressing Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crises, the Commandant of the NDLEA in Kano, Abubakar Ahmad, said they will not relent in the fight.

He said so far, about 1,887 suspects have been arrested.

The commandant said four cannabis farms were also discovered and destroyed in the state.

Other well-meaning individuals at the event also promised to continue to support the command, as they continue the fight against drug abuse.
