Nigeria Becomes Country With Most Islamic State Attacks, After Iraq – Report

Jihad Analytics in its latest report claimed that Nigeria has overtaken Iraq as the country with the highest number of attacks by the Islamic State (IS).

The analytics is a consultancy company which processes data on global and cyber jihad.

Jihad Analytics stated that half of the attacks claimed by IS since the beginning of 2022 were in Africa.

It added that the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), an affiliate of IS, now carry out more attack in Nigeria.

According to report, data shows that Nigeria recorded a total of 162 IS operations since January 2022, with Iraq recording 120.

In a post on Twitter on Friday, Jihad Analytics wrote: “Since the beginning of the year, the Islamic State has conducted half of its attacks in #Africa.

“For the first time in the history of the jihadi group, Iraq is no longer the country where #IS claims the highest number of operations: the group #ISWAP is now more active in Nigeria.”

ISWAP, since it broke out of Boko Haram, has been terrorising Nigeria’s north-east with more devastating attacks.

The deadly group attacks have claimed thousands of lives, leaving many homeless.

ISWAP, which operates from the Lake Chad region of Nigeria, has carried out attacks on military installations.

The group is also known for attacking members of Boko Haram previously led by the late Abubakar Shekau.
