Nigeria Decides: Voters reveal expectations as voting commences in Dutse Alhaji polling units, Abuja

Voters in Dutse Alhaji, a satellite town in Abuja, trooped out early to their units on Saturday morning in preparation for the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Raye24reporters reports that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, reported early in the Polling Units in Dutse as scores of voters were already gathered with some security personnel observing.

At the Polling Unit (PU) in Dutse Alhaji I&II, Dutse Primary School, Ward Dutse Alhaji, in Bwari Local Government Area, hundreds of voters were seen at 8:30 a.m.

Some of the voters who spoke to DAILY POST expressed hope in the electoral system while calling on Nigerians to conduct themselves peacefully.

Raye24reporters observed that the electoral process were going smoothly as of the time of filing this report as voters have already started voting for their preferred candidate

According to one voter, Mr Desmond Chukwuemeka, it is sensible to come early because the polling units are usually crowded.

Chukwuemeka urged voters to maintain peace while calling on the electoral officers to make sure that the process is fair and credible.

He said, “I advise the electorates to be calm and carry out their civil responsibility. I believe that this election will not be violent in any way

As you can see, everyone is well-behaved and the security agencies are on the ground,” he said.

Another voter, Mrs Faith Charles, also called for a peaceful process, pleading with Nigerians to make the right choice in the nation’s interest.

She said, “I have been here since 4 am in the morning. I hope the process goes peacefully. Nigerians should vote wisely and obey the INEC officials and security personnel.”

Raye24reporters, however, observed that there is a less free vehicular movement within Dutse Alhaji in spite of the movement restriction that comes with elections.
