Nigeria signs €16.9m grant on health project with Germany

The Nigerian and German governments have signed a €16.9m grant on the Reproductive Health and Pandemic Resilience project.

Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, signed on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria while the KFW Development Bank and Marie Stopes International Organisation Nigeria (MSION) signed on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Country Director of MSION, Mr Emmanuel Ajah signed the Agreement with Nigeria’s Prince Agba for implementation of the Project.

The signing ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in Abuja, was witnessed by Ms Susanne Schröder, Head of the Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Germany in Nigeria on behalf of KFW Development Bank and the Directors of International Cooperation and Information in the Ministry, Dr Lanre Adekanye and Mrs Boriowo Folasade respectively.

The German Government, through the Project, will support the Government of Nigeria in the Health Sector by improving the quality of life of women and girls and, by extension, the generality of the Nigerian population.

While appreciating the perennial support received from the German Government in various sectors, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Agba, stated that the Nigeria National Development Plan 2021-2025 identified the issues of women as part of the cardinal objectives for promoting health habits, healthy behaviours and lifestyles across all life stages.

He said the implementation of the Project would further deepen and promote effective partnership between Nigeria and Germany.
