Some Northern elders led by the convener of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Prof. Ango Abdullahi have paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Ogun State.
The Northern elders who were part of the visit include the Chairman, CNG Board of Trustees (BOT), Nastura Ashir Shariff; and the Director, CNG Action and Mobilization, Aminu Adam.
The elders visited Obasanjo at his residence on Tuesday and the two parties met behind closed doors for about two hours.
Addressing newsmen after the closed-door meeting, Prof. Abdullahi confirmed that their discussions centered around the state of the country and the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
He said, “I don’t want to stay away from him for so many months or years without seeing him, especially at this period.
“So, I’m visiting him to say hello and get a briefing from him on how I feel about the nation. We also briefed him on how we feel about the nation. We compared some notes and we agreed on some grounds.”
Abdullahi lamented that the challenges of insecurity in Nigeria have never been as bad as what is currently obtainable, adding that Chief Obasanjo agrees with them on the issues raised.
“Yes. We are on the same page and Insha Allah it shall be well,” he answered when questioned about being on the same page with Obasanjo.
He then added that as the 2023 elections draw closer, there is the need to strategize, hence the need for the meeting.
“We have been having challenges and we have been talking on this. You are in the media and you know what we have been saying about the situation in the country. Things are not good enough and as we head for 2023, we hope to be strategizing for the good of the nation,” Abdullahi submitted.
