Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria, on Monday scolded supporters of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The supporters had stormed the library of the elder statesman to drum support for Osinbajo’s presidential ambition in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The supporters of the Vice President had called on him to contest in the 2023 general elections during the Coalition for Democracy on Africa (CoDA) summit at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta.
While the submit was ongoing on Monday Osinbajo’s supporters stormed the venue, chanting, ‘PYO for President.”
The former president who was not pleased with their action came out to scold the supporters, directing them to keep quiet.
It was gathered that Obasanjo came out as if he wanted to address the supporters of the vice president, but ordered them to bring down their campaign placards as his library was not a campaign ground.
There had been calls for Osinbajo to declare for the presidency and step into the shoes of President Muhammadu Buhari when his tenure ends next year.
However, in some quarters there are claims that Osinbajo’s presidential ambition might not see the light of day due to the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu, the National leader of the All Progressives Congress.
Osinbajo had once served under Tinubu as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State and was endorsed by Tinubu as Buhari’s running mate in 2015.
This development is believed to be a hindrance to the presidential interest of the Vice President.
