Olumide Oworu: What You Should Know About LP Candidate Plans to Unseat Desmond Elliot

Popular Nollywood actor cum politician, Desmond Elliot, will battling it out with his younger colleague, Olumide Oworu, in Saturday’s House of Assembly polls.

Raye24reporters reports that Desmond, who is the lawmaker representing the Surulere constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, has contested the position for eight years unopposed.

However, the youths are upset that since the lawmaker was sworn into office in 2015, he has not been productive and also turned his back on the youths during the #EndSars protest in 2020, by pushing for a bill to regulate and control speech on social media at the house of assembly.

Nollywood actor, Olumide Oworu, has now joined the race on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) and many youths are envisaging his victory at the poll, with a promise to come out en masse to vote out Desmond.

Below are seven things you should know about the LP candidate.

  1. Apart from being an actor, Olumide is also a model and rapper.
  2. He was born on December 11, 1994.
  3. He commenced his acting career at the age of six with the television series “Everyday People”.
  4. Olumide is popularly known for his role as Tari in the Africa Magic Series ‘The Johnsons’.
  5. The actor attended King’s College, Lagos, and the University of Lagos.
  6. Olumide has won several awards including the “Mr. Popularity” prize in the Model of Africa 2012 contest, and the Nollywood Revelation of The Year award at the Scream Awards 2014.
  7. He won the Most Promising actor in the 2015 Best of Nollywood Awards and Best Supporting actor for his role in the Soldier’s Story in the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
