‘People Are Spending Lots Of Money To Run Mad’ – Police Spokesman Raises Alarm Over High Rate Of Drug Abuse In Delta

The Delta State Police Command spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, has decried the high rate of drug abuse in the state.

The PPRO stated this on Monday, November 6, 2023, via his X handle, stating that the command will work towards ensuring that abuse of substances is stopped.

Sharing a photo of illicit drugs recovered from a supplier in Ughelli, Edafe, condemned the trend of drug abuse.

He wrote: “People are spending lots of money to run mad. I will keep saying this. We have to do our best to stop the abuse of the substance in the name of getting high. These hard drugs were recovered from a transporter who was going to supply at Ughelli. I also heard that there is a high rate of drug/substance abuse in Oghara as well. We have to condemn this trend, otherwise, I don’t know where the leaders of tomorrow will come from if we use drugs to destroy our today. How do we see tomorrow like this?”

Meanwhile, one Lilian Nwarache, 39, has reportedly poisoned herself after being frustrated with illness.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the tragic incident of the lady who reportedly drank an insecticide on Friday in the Iwaya area of Lagos. Nwarache was said to have been suffering from a protracted illness and had been seeking a remedy in a church located in Iwaya.

However, her condition led to immense frustration, prompting her to consume an entire bottle of insecticide on November 3, 2023. After ingesting the insecticide, Nwarache allegedly attempted to jump into a canal but was prevented by passers-by. She was immediately rushed to a hospital, where a doctor pronounced her deceased.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that three passports belonging to the deceased were discovered in her bag, along with her Samsung phone.
