The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested one Ibrahim Mohamed Liman, for the abduction and m8rder of his neighbour’s 8-year-old son in the Runjin Gani community, Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, August 15, said the suspect conspired with another individual and kidnapped the victim, Kamal Aliyu, by luring him under the pretense of delivering a message to his father, Alhaji Ali Runji.
According to the PPRO, Kamal was taken into a nearby bush, where they k!lled him and buried his body in a shallow grave.
Upon interrogation, the suspect disclosed that they had demanded a ransom of N200,000 from the victim’s father but were unable to retrieve the money at the designated location where it was dropped due to the presence of security operatives in the nearby area.
“On August 4, 2024, Kamal Aliyu was reported kidnapped by unknown individuals in Runjin Gani village in Toro LGA of Bauchi state. In response, the Division Police Officer (DPO) of Toro Police Divisional headquarters launched an intensive search and rescue operation in the area,” the statement read.
“Acting on credible intelligence and a tip-off on August 15, 2024, the Divisional Police Officer apprehended Ibrahim Mohamed Liman, a 23-year-old male resident of the same Runjin Gani community and a close neighbour to the victim’s family.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with another individual, whose identity is still unknown, to kidnap Kamal Aliyu by luring him under the pretence of delivering a message to his father, Alhaji Ali Runji.
“The suspect admitted to taking the young boy into a nearby bush, where they k!lled him and buried his body in a shallow grave.
“The suspect also disclosed that they had demanded a ransom of two hundred thousand Naira from the victim’s father. Although the father complied and took the ransom money to the designated location, the suspects were unable to retrieve it due to the presence of security operatives in the nearby area.
“On this note, Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, psc, Anipr has directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
“The Command extends its deepest condolences to the family of the victim and reiterates its commitment to protecting life and property, assuring the public that every effort is being made to bring all those involved in this heinous crime to justice.”
