The Akwa Ibom State Police Command have confirmed the abduction of eight individuals, including a Naval Rating, from Ibaka in the Mbo Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on Monday night at the Classic Point Hotel in Ibaka.
As of the time of reporting, the victims’ whereabouts remain unknown.
Police Public Relations Officer for the Akwa Ibom Command, Timfon John, confirmed the incident.
He stated, “Upon receiving the information, Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara led a team of security personnel to the community. I can assure you that with the CP’s visit and other strategic approaches, normalcy will return.”
The Naval authorities in Akwa Ibom have not yet commented on the situation.
This abduction follows closely on the heels of another incident where a bus driver and 18 passengers traveling from Uyo to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were also kidnapped, with their whereabouts still unknown.
Meanwhile, an officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector Aminu Muhammed, has been reportedly arrested over alleged involvement in armed robbery and car theft.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the officer’s arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday, stating that the erring personnel is currently in detention.
Raye24reporters learnt that Muhammed was accused of stealing from the homes of individuals near his assigned area, the ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the capital of the state.
The state’s police spokesperson, William Ayah, who confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, stated that the police inspector has been taken into custody and is currently in jail.
