The Lagos State Police Command has issued a warrant for the arrest of a doctor, identified as Idara Bassey, in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman named Abiola, who tragically died during a buttocks enlargement procedure at a clinic in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the news on Thursday.
Raye24reporters learnt that Abiola visited the clinic for a buttocks enhancement procedure, commonly known as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
Unfortunately, the procedure turned fatal after a nurse, reportedly following Bassey’s instructions, administered an injection that led to the patient losing consciousness.
The BBL procedure, which involves transferring fat from other parts of the body to the buttocks to achieve a fuller appearance, has been flagged by medical professionals for its potential risks.
Despite the warnings, the surgery remains popular, with many women in Lagos sharing their success stories online.
According to reports in The Punch, Abiola had left her home in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, in Ibeju Lekki on Monday, instructing her driver to take her to the clinic for the procedure.
After the nurse administered the injection, the driver, who was present at the clinic, informed the police that Abiola suddenly lost consciousness and began gasping for air.
The police have since arrested the nurse involved in the procedure. However, the clinic’s owner, Dr. Bassey, is currently on the run.
Confirming the situation, Hundeyin stated that the doctor has been declared wanted and is considered a suspect in the ongoing investigation
