The Nigeria Police Force have announced the arrest of a 50-year-old man identified as Simeon Onigbo who is said to be the bomb manufacturer for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
He was arrested on Thursday during a raid at Uba Umuaka in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State as confirmed on Friday by the spokesperson of the Imo Police Command, CSP Michael Abattam.
The Police spokesperson explained that the suspect manufactures Improvised Explosive Devices ( IEDs) used in various attacks by IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Several items used in the manufacturing of the explosives were recovered from the scene and have been handed over to the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) of the Police for further analysis and possible detonation.
He said: “On searching the criminal hideouts items recovered include the following: One already prepared Improvised Explosive Devices, fifty eight pieces of Cannon Steel Pipe, two chisels, one Monday Hammer one and a half bag of Potassium Nitrate, thirty pounds weight of Sulphur, Fourty Pounds Weight of dry Sand, 10 Pounds Weight of Red Sand, Thirty Pounds Weight of Gun Powder, Half Bag of Charcoal, Thirty Electronic Motorcycle Batteries and Seven Lengths of 8 millimeters Iron Rods.”
He said added that the Command has commenced a full-scale investigation and the suspect is cooperating with the Police.
According to him: “investigation is ongoing, the suspect has made useful statement and mentioned members of his gangs outside the State who patronize him. Operatives of the Command are not relenting and all efforts are on top gear to arrest the named suspects.”
