The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), and a Non Governmental Organisation, Helpline Foundation for the Needy, Abuja, are to partner on areas to improve the lives of women and children in the country.
National President of Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Elizabeth Egbatokun, who led a delegation of POWA executive on a courtesy visit to the Founder, of Helpline Foundation for the Needy, Abuja, noted that the two bodies share the same vision of impacting positively on the less privileged, especially women and children.
“We have heard so much about your organisation, Helpline Foundation for the Needy, and we felt there is need to work together with a view to creating a mutual relationship that will benefit our women.
“Basically, we are ready to tap from your wealth of knowledge and expertise in the areas of girl child education, women empowerment through the agricultural value chain.
“We see agriculture as a catalyst for economic growth and a tool for lifting millions of our women from the shackles of poverty. It will also serves as our modest contribution to food security agenda of the present government”, Egbatokun stressed.
In her response, the founder and president of Helpline Foundation for the Needy, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, who appreciated the team for the visit, commended the present leadership of POWA for the far sightedness.
She, however, expressed the willingness to partner with POWA towards the establishment of demonstration farms in some selected area councils across the territory, stressing that such move will add value to the Food Bank initiative of Helpline Foundation.
Ahmadu, who is also the Co-convener of the Africa Women Conference used the occasion to inform the team that the 7th Edition of the Africa Women Conference, will take place in Mauritius, in November 2023.
She further stated that the forthcoming women conference would be a platform to interact with other women from across the world, just as she called for the participation of POWA at the conference.
