The Presidential candidates of Nigeria’s registered political parties have been advised to focus on issues as they begin their electioneering campaigns in September in readiness for the 2023 elections.
The Chairman of Labour Party in Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Comrade Ifeanyi Uzochukwu, made the appeal in an exclusive interview with newsmen on the forthcoming general election.
Comrade Uzochukwu emphasized that there must be a change in the political narrative by ensuring that the campaigns are issues based devoid of mudslinging and character assassination, adding that Nigerians should assess the candidates based on what they have achieved before in past elective positions.
“We must jettison the issue of attacking candidates seeking elective offices, but rather, what are you bringing to the table to solve the problem of insecurity, economy, education and health care” , he noted.
Uzochukwu stated, “For us in the Labour Party, we have a credible candidate in the person of Mr Peter Obi, who is receiving massive support across the country because of his fantastic credentials and past records of excellent service as Governor of Anambra State”
“This can be attested to with the influx of people across the country and across party lineage joining the Labour Party, because they need good governance and the leader they can trust. Mr Peter Obi remains the only candidate with clean records or question mark about his credentials, name and age, all these are the attributes that people are yearning for to root for him with structure or no structure”
On the massive turn out for the registration of voters, Comrade Ifeanyi Uzochukwu, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the encouragement, but advised that more machines be made available before the 2023 general election, to avoid long queues in polling centers.
