Refusal to Evacuate Igbo Citizens From Sudan: MFA Debunks Report Attributed to Its Spokesperson

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied unsubstantiated reports wrongly attributed to its Spokesperson about refusal by Nigerian Embassy staff in Khartoum, Sudan to evacuate Igbo citizens resident in that country.

According to the ministry, at no time did its spokesperson made such an assertion, describing the report as “false in its entirety”.

This was contained in a statement by the ministry which reads in part, “The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to a statement attributed to its Spokesperson, following the Ministry’s press release on the unsubstantiated report on the social media that Igbo indigenes resident in Sudan were refused evacuation by Nigerian Embassy staff in Khartoum, Sudan.

“The allegation that the Spokesperson “admitted that Igbo were asked to come down from the evacuation buses, but it wasn’t deliberate, noting that the issue had been resolved” is false in its entirety.

“The general public is invited to note that at no time did the Spokesperson of MFA make such an assertion and for the avoidance of doubt, the Press Release in question is hereby attached for clarification”.
