Sanwo-Olu Spent N1bn On Helicopter Charter In One Month – Rhodes-Vivour Alleges

The Labour Party (LP) candidate for the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has raised concerns over the lavish spending on helicopter services by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Rhodes-Vivour alleged that in April 2022, the Governor spent a whopping N1,039,875,000 on helicopter charters for his travel, with an additional N512,000,000 spent in July and August 2023.

Rhodes-Vivour, in a statement shared on his verified X handle, questioned the justification for nearly N2 billion being spent in just three months on helicopter services for the Governor, especially when some areas of Lagos lack access to basic amenities like clean water.

He proposed that, if elected, his administration would opt for using drones instead of helicopters for project monitoring to allocate resources more efficiently. He emphasized that with N1.2 billion, 1,000 teachers could be paid N100,000 per month for a year, contributing towards achieving significant improvements in public education in the state.

Furthermore, Rhodes-Vivour pledged that under his leadership, officials would not be funded for private jet travel, and any official choosing to fly privately would do so at their own expense.
