Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, in Jigawa state, on Tuesday arrested one Baffa Musa Yau’ a 23 years old a resident of Yankoli Quarters in Hadejia and one Abubakar Alhaji Sani ’27 year old residing in Shagari Quarters, of Hadejia LGA for adulteration of fertilizer intended for sale and conspiracy contrary to sections 184 and 97 of the Penal Code Law.
The two suspect were arrested following an intelligence report in one particular store behind Fatima Mai Fulani Plaza along Kano Road, while mixing NPK Agricultural fertilizer of various companies with sand meant to be sold to unsuspecting members of the public.
At the time of their arrest, they were in possession of 27 bags of fertilizer in which 24 were already adulterated while the other 3 were filled with sand.
Estimating the value of the agricultural fertilizer is summed at N336,000 with each bag selling for N14,000.
The duo were on Wednesday, 12th of October, 2022 arraigned before the Jigawa State Mobile Court presided over by Barrister Mannir Sarki Abdullahi who sentenced them as follows:
1.each is to stay Six month in custodial facility or to pay fine option of N50,000 for Adulteration.
- For the second charges both of them to go for Six (6) month in Custodial facility or fine option of N30,000 each for Conspiracy.
- The Exhibits was seized by the Court for onward destruction.
- They all sign a bond in court to be of good character which will attract three (3) month imprisonment if they breached.
