The embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, popularly known as Shiites, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Peace and Conflict Resolution from an Iranian University.
Zakzaky, who carries the title of Ayatollah, is an outspoken leading Shi’ite leader and Islamic cleric in Nigeria.
The Shiite leader donned a ceremonial robe to receive the honorary doctorate as his family witnessed the occasion.
Zakzaky launched the Islamic movement in the 1980s to copy Iran’s Islamic revolution that led to the downfall of the pro-West monarch, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, in 1979.
