Stop dismissing police officer for misconduct – Actress Shan George tells police

Veteran Nollywood actress Shan George, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to stop dismissing officers found guilty of any misconduct.

The actress was reacting after the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, indicated the Police has dismissed Force No. 509745 Corporal Opeyemi Kadiri attached to Dolphin Divisional Headquarters, Lagos Police Command for gross misconduct, disobedience to lawful order, and assault on a member of the public captured in a viral video on August 3, 2022.

While proffering alternative punishment via Instagram video, George suggested that they should be suspended, demoted or salary reduction rather than dismissing and making them jobless.

She said: “So I woke up this morning and am hearing about another police man that has been dismissed for misconduct or maybe one offense or another. I’m thinking that not a good idea to be dismissing them. You can demote, you can suspend, you can reduce the salary.

“You now have to actually dismiss them and put them back into the society as jobless people. A qualified police man who has been doing a police job for while and now back on the street as Jobless. Do you think about it? That’s not just right please.”

However, the 52-year-old holds that it’s not right to dismiss for misconduct since they didn’t kill anyone.

She captioned the video: “As long As They Didn’t Kill Anyone. Suspend Them, Demote Them, Cut down Salary, Re Re-orientate Theme, But Don’t Dismiss Policemen.”
