A 29-year-old lady, Chioma Okafor has been arrested in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State for alleged armed robbery.
Okafor was arrested alongside a 19-year-old boy, Nweke Joshua, “while carrying out a robbery operation,” the Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Sunday.
Oyeyemi disclosed that the suspects were arrested after a distress call was received at the Mowe police division at about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
The police had been informed that the suspected armed robbers had invaded a food stuff shop owned by one Johnson Nwokoro at Safari Junction, Adesan, while dispossessing him of his money.
Upon the distress call, the DPO of Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, was said to have mobilized his patrol team and men of the So-Safe corps men to the scene, where the two suspects were apprehended.
“On searching them, it was discovered that they came to rob the shop with toy guns which looked perfectly like original pistols,” Oyeyemi said.
The teenage boy informed the police that that it was Okafor who came with the robbery operation ideas in order for them to have some money.
According to Oyeyemi, Okafor was said to have bought the two toy guns, giving Nweke one for the botched operation.
“They went to the shop and pretended like customers, but they suddenly brought out guns and ordered the shop owner to hand over all money in his possession to them,” the police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State CIID for investigation.
