Following the unprovoked terror attack unleashed on the people of Bassa in Kogi State, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, has visited Oguma, the local government headquarters, Wednesday.
The police chief who expressed disappointment over the lingering feud promised to strengthen the police formation in Bassa.
He acknowledged the peaceful conduct of the Bassa people inspite of the continues attack by the Ebera Militias.
Earlier, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in the local government, Obaniwo Silas, narrated the sequential details of the various attacks by the Ebera on the people of Bassa.
Responding, the youth leader, Theophilus Adama, frankly disclosed how the soldiers shielded the Ebira attackers, while giving room for the burning down of properties worth N90 million by the same Ebira’s.
Mainwhile, discreet information has emerged that the Ebera militias have marked Oguma, the local government headquarters, as their next target.
According to our source, Jassa John, “the Ebera militias called some top security personnel in the local government telling them to be ready for another attack. They even gave the date and time of the attack.
“As we speak, there is palpable fear everywhere. That is how they have been operating. They will first call and they always keep to the date and time of their attacks on the Bassa people.”
Another source, Denda Sunday said, “even the commandant of the Army has compromised glaringly.
“They were protecting the assailants from being apprehended by the local vigilante members and hunters. Some of the soldiers even threatened to shoot at the vigilante members and hunters. Everyone body is on the run since the security personnel are also against the Bassa people.”
In what looked as a shock, the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has been said to be supportive of the Ebera militias.
A source who doesn’t want his name in print said, “the governor is encouraging the Ebera. He has appointed the arrow heads of the militias into his administration as SSA and up graded the traditional ruler behind this attacks and the singular reason for this is to grab Bassa land from the aborigines and hand it over to the Ebera,” he disclosed to Raye24reporters.
