To Curb Herders-Farmers Clash in Nigeria Miyetti Allah Adviser – Gives Solution

National adviser to the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Danburam has admitted that members of the association are at loggerheads with peasant farmers across states in the country.

Speaking on the reoccurring farmers-herders crisis in Nigeria, Danburam who is saddled with the responsibility of advising the herders’ union on Peace and Conflict Resolution, said the only solution to the crisis is to ensure national security and development.

Danburam said this during an interview in Jalingo, Taraba State capital on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

Danburam said there is a need to provide suitable platforms for dialogue, peacebuilding initiatives and mutual unity of purpose among the various communities where Fulani herders reside to permanently resolve the herders-farmers conflict.

He also encouraged that the government should review the existing laws and bring up favourable ones that will support the economy and the wellbeing of herders.

The former Taraba State Chairman of MACBAN also noted that there is a need for improvement on the educational standard of the herders in Nigeria to give them a better way of life.

He stated, “Our people all over the country are backward in education and modern ways of life. They are denied not just education, but information that can properly position them for a greater future.”

Danburam also hopes that the government would extend its reach by providing livestock feeds and soft loans for nomads, the same way subsidies were being provided for crop farmers in the form of fertilisers, chemicals and other farm inputs.
