No fewer than nine persons have reportedly sustained injuries after speeding truck rammed into a police checkpoint in Anambra State.
The incident that occurred on Friday, involved an orange Mercedes 911.
Two persons were reportedly died in the incident, the newspaper report.
Reports also had it that the driver of the truck with number plate UWZ556XA was driving towards a petrol station when he lost control of his wheels and rammed into six other vehicles at Ken Maduako’s oil and gas filling station along the Ihialla-Onitsha road area of the state.
The cars affected were said to have queued up at a police checkpoint waiting for a pass before the truck lost its way and bashed them from behind.
However, the remains of the dead victims have been deposited at the morgue while the Federal Road Safety Corps rescue team from Ihiallia Unit Command rushed surviving victims to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiallia for proper medical examination.
The FRSC officials according to reports managed the traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was removed.
Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, commiserated with families of the deceased, warning motorists in the state to avoid overspeeding and ensure they keep to the recommended speed limit.
“Speed drills, but kills, check your speed and not your watch. Let us keep our roads safe from crash,” he warned.
