The newly elected Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Funds (TETFUND), Arch. Sonny Echono has reassured Nigerians that his administration would build on the firm foundation already established by his predecessor.
Echono disclosed this at a press briefing, to mark his inauguration at TETFUND headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
He revealed that TETFUND had been a leading government agency, whose impact has always been felt, recognized and acknowledged across the globe.
He added that areas in the educational sector where improvements are required would be duly attended to.
The former permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, said there was need to recognize this areas and take proper measures to improve on them to further boost innovation, research and economic growth.
He also emphasized that the tertiary institution should be seen as the hub for cultivation of ideas, new thinking and sheer development for all.
The Executive Secretary reiterated that focusing on curriculum delivery is expedient to his administration, as this will enable graduates to be relevant and not just employable, but this will invariably make them wealth creators.
He further added that his tenure will see into ensuring synergy between Industry and academia, to guarantee seamless production of manpower to service and national economy. In his words, ”Nigeria is in a position to play a key role in knowledge”.
Echono also hinted that focus will center more on ICT and technology, which is required to improve curriculum delivery in the sector.
He also asserted that prominence will be accorded to the type of curriculum taught and its mode of delivery.
Furthermore, the incumbent Executive Secretary stresses on the role of team play in any setting, since two heads are better than one.
He enjoined the staffs and other external bodies to judiciously use the available resources for the betterment of TETFUND.
He again commended the outgoing Executive Secretary, Prof Suleiman Bogoro for his timely and notable track records achieved during his tenure.
