Wike Accused of Massive Corruption, Land Grabbing in FCT Amid Cabinet Reshuffling

Nyesom Wike has been accused of increasing corruption in the Federal Capital Territory’s land administration.

A coalition of concerned residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), along with 65 civil society organizations, has raised allegations of widespread corruption and land grabbing against the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The accusations come at a time when rumours of an impending cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu.

The coalition, led by Alhaji Husseini Abubakar Agaire, held a press conference where they criticized Wike’s management of the FCT’s land administration, particularly pointing to the alleged undermining of the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), a key system aimed at ensuring transparency in land dealings.

Led by its convener, Alhaji Husseini Abubakar Agaire, the group expressed deep concerns during a press conference, where Agaire accused Wike of behaving in a manner reminiscent of his controversial tenure as the governor of Rivers State.

“After eight years in office, Nyesom Wike is still suffering from a power hangover that deludes him into thinking that every area he governs must answer to his whims and caprices. Unfortunately, he is now attempting to convert the FCT into his personal estate, as he did in Rivers State,” Agaire stated.

The AGIS, a system established to curb fraudulent land transactions and promote transparency in the FCT’s land management, is reportedly under threat under Wike’s leadership, according to the coalition. Agaire expressed deep concern that Wike’s actions could reverse two decades of progress made in ensuring a corruption-free land administration system. The timing of these allegations coincides with speculations about a cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu.

Sources from Aso Rock suggest that the President may soon shake up his administration, though it remains unclear if Wike will be affected by the changes.
