The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunk claims of Willie Obiano’s release from it custody.
A report which emerged on Friday morning stating that Obiano and his wife, Ebelechukwe who were arrested by EFCC officials at the Murtala Mohammad International Airport in Lagos On Thursday, had been released on bail.
However, in a chat with reporters on Friday morning, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren noted that the report claiming that the former governor had been released is fake and should be ignored.
The agency’s spokesman disclosed that Obiano was still in the custody of the anti-graft agency and is currently being moved to its headquarters in Abuja for further interrogation.
“He has not been released. it’s fake news. He is in our custody and is currently being moved to Abuja”, the EFCC spokesman said.
Uwujaren noted that Obiano had been on the EFCC’s watchlist for some months, adding that his immunity as a governor prevented his arrest until he handed over power to his successor, Charles Soludo.
He said the EFCC had requested the Nigeria Immigration Service to provide information on the former governor’s movement out of the country from airports, or other points of exit from the country.
