The Lagos state police command has dragged a 28-year-old lady identified as Charity Iroakazi, before and Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having in her possession 36 berets with IPOB insignia on them.
The police prosecutor identified as Inspector Samuel Mishozunnu, told the court that the accused who is an artisan and resides at 14, Nurudeen St., Ojo, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and unlawful possession of an Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) berets, against the law.
Mishozunnu said the offences were committed on June 16 at Mosalasi Bus Stop, Satellite, Lagos. He said a team of police officers who were on a patrol intercepted a delivery man carrying a big black nylon in his motorcycle. He said upon searching the nylon bag, the police found 36 pieces of color black, green and red berets with IPOB insignia written on it.
The prosecutor said that the delivery man led the police to the sender address and that led to the defendant’s arrest. He added that the offence contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
When the charges were read to her, Iroakazi pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Folasade Hughes, granted the defendant bail for N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until August 2 for mention.
