Yakasai Reacts as President Tinubu Withdraws Maryam Shetty From Ministerial List

Salihu Tanko Yakasai, former governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Kano State, has reacted to the withdrawal of the nomination of Maryam ‘Shetty’ Shettima from the ministerial list.

President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, forwarded an additional 19 names of ministerial nominees to complement the previously sent 28-man nominees earlier sent on August 2.

However, on Thursday, Shetty’s ministerial nomination generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media, particularly, Twitter.

In a letter to the Senate on Friday, the president withdrew Shetty’s nomination and replaced her with Maigari Mahmud, who is also from Kano State.

Reacting in a Twitter post, Yakasai said he pitied the health practitioner over the withdrawal of her nomination, irrespective of whether she is qualified to be a minister or not.

He said the withdrawal of her name is embarrassing and she might never recover from the humiliation, saying that the process that nominated and withdrew her name should be blamed.

He wrote: “I pity Maryam Shetty, irrespective of whether she is qualified to be a minister or not. I blame the process that nominated her and then withdrew her name.

“This is embarrassing, and she might never recover from this humiliation.”
