The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, CFR has called on Directors of Human Resource Management in various MDAs to ensure that trainings are organised for Officers, specifically on the Revised 2021 Public Service Rules (PSR), so as to deepen their understanding of the new rules, which are of essence to their duties.
She made this call at a One-day Sensitisation Workshop organised for HRM Directors from core Ministries. This was contained in a statement signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director, Communications.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Policies and Strategies Office, Dr Deborah Odoh, the HoSF explained that the forum was the first in a series of sensitisation workshops being planned since the unveiling of the revised PSR.
She highlighted the significance of the Revised 2021 Public Service Rules in Nigeria’s Public Service as that which will reshape the administrative landscape, as well as guide the conduct of Public Servants.
Declaring the Workshop open, she urged participants to study and comply with the Rules, positing that the new PSR would guide workers to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the discharge of their duties.
It would also help them to obtain the desired framework of service in line with global best practices, as well as foster a culture of professionalism and excellence within Public Institutions, she added.
Earlier in her Welcome Remarks, the Director, Organisational Design and Development (ODD), Dr Mojisola Abu, highlighted that the workshop was organised to sensitise Public Servants on the revised 2021 PSR, as it was reviewed to meet the current realities.
She added that some of the additional rules are expected to be part of the workshop’s deliberations to provide further updates and amendment to the PSR.
Participants hoped to leverage on this opportunity to inquire about some misconceptions in the newly revised PSR such as issues concerning the tenure system and the Officers involved; the New Performance Management System; retirement age and other provisions in the revised PSR.
Coming from the break, after the Opening Session, the Second Session began with presentations by two facilitators, Mrs Bola Thomas and Mr. Oni Fatunwashe, who touched on all the chapters of 2021 Revised PSR; questions, comments and were sought for by the participants. Finally, syndicate groups were formed to brain-storm on possible updates and amendments to the new PSR, as well as additional rules.
