The Kaduna State Security Council has lifted the dusk-to-dawn curfew previously imposed in the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria.
The curfew, which restricted movement between 6 pm and 8 am, was officially lifted on Tuesday.
In a statement by the Acting Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, it was announced that the decision came after a thorough assessment of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria, under the direction of Governor Uba Sani.
“After an extensive review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs, the Kaduna State Security Council under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani has removed the current 6 pm to 8 am curfew completely.
“The removal of the curfew is effective immediately, from today Tuesday, August 13, 2024,” the statement said.
The curfew had been previously relaxed from a 24-hour lockdown implemented after the unrest that followed the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests in the state.
Aruwan explained that the lifting of the curfew was based on a comprehensive evaluation of the security landscape in these areas.
Residents of Kaduna and Zaria are now free to resume their daily activities without time restrictions. However, the state government has cautioned the public against holding unauthorized gatherings or processions, advising residents to seek proper clearance from the authorities to avoid disruptions to public order.
The government emphasized that security forces will remain vigilant and will act swiftly against any threats to peace.
Governor Uba Sani also reiterated his commitment to inclusive governance and assured that he would continue to engage with key stakeholders to ensure peace and unity across Kaduna State.
The statement concluded by highlighting that the Kaduna State Security Council, after a thorough review, unanimously agreed to lift the curfew and reaffirmed its dedication to the safety and security of all residents.
